'mi-eet the beatles?

Copied from das' blog... Couldn't resist it, they look so young and fresh...
Watched an episode of "The War" tonight. It brought tears to my eyes more than once. What those (mostly) men (kids most of them) went through was heart wrenching.
I am ever so grateful with the life I have and I pray that the people who are in Iraq and Afghanistan fighting for who knows what, will know peace and joy again.

more of 'mi pictures

in 'mi-moriam

The Guemes ferry... It takes just under three minutes to make the trip across the channel. As lovely and sunny as yesterday was, today is overcast and a bit gloomy. I actually don't mind, but the sunny skies do seem to inspire more activity on my part. This morning I feel *much* better. Lots of couch time helped :-) And I ate an awful lot of food the past two days. We did eat at the Captain's Place, which is closing tonight. I've lived here nine years and the first time I ate there was last month. I really enjoy eating meals out and trying new places, even so there have been a few restaurants in town that have come and gone that I never tried out. There are still quite a few to choose from (and a few I haven't yet tried!). The following list was obtained from the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce http://www.anacortes.org/. Comments are 'mine.

Adrift - Definitely on the faves list! Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Aloha Paradise Grill - tried it once, may have to give it another try
Anacortes Chocolate Factory - Another fave - ice cream!
Anacortes Meats - New. I think they don't actually serve prepared food.
Bayside Sweets and Treats - A favorite among the next generation - candy
Bellissima Trattoria - good food, pricey, nice decor
Brown Lantern Ale House - Yummy fattening food, no one under 21 allowed (and smoking in the back)
Calico Cupboard Old Town Bakery - a small local chain. Huge cinnamon rolls.
Camelot Coffee - drive-thru espresso
Captain's Place - Closing today , as noted above. Casual.
Cheesecake Cafe - I've only had "tastes" here
Deception Cafe & Grill - Yummy but unappetizing atmosphere
The Donut House - It is what it is. I liked it better when the drive-thru was open 24 hours!
El Jinete Mexican Restaurant - our all-time favourite family restaurant. We've been coming here since before we moved to Anacortes and a couple of the servers know Ivey's order as soon as they see her ;-)
Flounder Bay Restaurant - overpriced, unispiring food near the water
Gere-A-Deli - a community staple - they cater many local events (including Saint Mary events), big sandwiches, good but it all tastes the same after a few visits so it's better to visit occasionally
Greek Islands Restaurant - I like it. Pleasant atmosphere, good service, good food
Il Posto Ristorante - ate there when it first opened - tres cher but will need to try it again
Johnny Picasso's - coffee and pottery painting
La Vie En Rose French Bakery - fattening yummy stuff
Lockrem's Bar & Grill - never even heard of it!
Majestic Inn and Spa - Haven't eaten there
Northwest Catch - I think they just sell fish, no prepared meals
Penguin Coffee LLC - a favorite for coffee and hanging out (free internet access but no outside seating)
Pizza Factory - Just what it sounds like
Randy's Pier 61 - I really do not like the food - standard american fare, lots of seafood choices much of it battered and fried but a great vista! (and outdoor smoking - I mean seating.)
Rockfish Grill/Anacortes Brewery - The food is fine but for some reason I don't care for the restaurant all that much.
San Juan Lanes/Storks Restaurant - A restaurant in a bowling alley - need I say more? Actually we do like it - comfort food.
Star Bar - newly remodeled, haven't checked it out yet
Store Grocery - A neighbourhood store with a little cafe. Haven't been there to eat in years...
Strawberry Bay Coffee Co. - drive-thru espresso located on an awkward corner to drive thru but close.
Swinomish Northern Lights Casino - 'nuff said.
Teriyaki Time - Ate there last night. Hope it stays a while :-)
Tokyo Japanese Restaurant - I like it. well priced Bento lunch specials.
Village Pizza - I prefer it to the Pizza Factory.
Watertown Pub & Grill - A dive. Never eaten there, never want to.

Bon appetit!

'mi feeling better

Here's something you don't see everyday - a recipe on the side of a trash can. One of our local restaurants is closing due to a clean-up project by the Port. I took my camera and some batteries and shot some pictures of the eatery and vicinity. This trash can is one of a series decorated with renditions of salmon labels from Anacortes' cannery past...
The other picture shows a product near and dear to me...

'mi no feel so good

Worked half a day. It's beautiful outside. I have to go back to the couch. Hope all is well with you.

'mi and my bathroom

Houston, we have a shower. And two new walls! That's the good news. The not so good news is we still do not have a floor which means we cannot have a sink. See photos... (I finally put batteries in the camera!)

Colour 'mi surprised!

Received a call from JTW this morning - says he's added another notch to the hitching post. Married on 25 August 2007. Congratulations and the best of luck!! This picture was taken from 30 feet above the Anacortes Arts Festival... That's me with the Starbucks cup. Now that fall has come, those long sunny days of August are fading from memory. My thoughts drift to warm blankets and cozy nights. I'm fortunate to have R's old couch (and he invites me to lounge on his new one every so often as well). Long sleeves, dark mornings, pumpkins... Fall is here.

The 'mi-ning of life

Bathroom progress and regress. Two walls are now replaced with Wonderboard and fibreglass panels, tub area is caulked. Took out bathroom sink and cabinet to discover (not surprisingly) rotted linoleum beneath. Peeled up linoleum to find wet floor cardboard like floor covering. Fans are now running to dry out the floor.
I did get a nice new pedestal sink which can be put in eventually. Also possibly solved shower issue - part on order.
The rest of the house is somewhat disheveled, with tools and such strewn about. No end in sight, but long pauses are nearly visible.

Tell 'mi about it

This too shall pass...
Like a kidney stone.

It's just 'mi

No batteries in the camera so I can't show you the progress in the bathroom, but it's coming along. B and I got all the Wonderboard up. Next - tape and patch, then the vinyl.
Thanks to A & R for letting us use their showers in the meantime.

VM is back at home with DA. Whatever else that brings, I know they are happier to be together. Almost envy that, or at least the idea of it.

Time for work.
